About Kāya Holistic Wellness
“Kāya” is a Pali word that means “body” in English but also means “accumulation or collection.” In Theravada Buddhism, it also relates to feeling and perception. I thought about the way that we hold things like trauma in our bodies, and Kaya seemed like the perfect name for a place where we seek to heal and align our body, mind, and spirit.

Kaya Holistic Wellness was founded on the principle that our body, our mind, our emotions, and our spirit all need to be mindfully tended to in order for us to feel our best. True wellness is achieved when all of these things are in alignment.

More About Me

I have been interested in wellness since I was a teenager. I was first introduced to the idea of mindfulness meditation as part of Shotokan karate training when I was a young teen. I began practicing yoga around age 15 and loved how I felt more alive and awake afterward. I realized that as we tune in to how things makes us feel, we learn really quickly what is healthy for us and what is not. It might be the friend that you feel exhausted after spending time with. It could be the sugar “hangover” that you get after stress-eating donuts. It can also be the feeling of being completely alive that you get after spending time in nature. When you begin to practice mindful attention, you begin to see how everything you do is impacting you. All of our actions impact us and our wellness positively or negatively. The journey toward true wellness begins with making more choices that make you feel good – physically, emotionally, and spiritually. There is no one size fits all path to wellness. It as is unique as each of us!

For myself, I know that I feel my best when I am spending time outdoors and with animals; moving my body somehow; engaging in my spiritual practice; and doing something that positively impacts the world. I know that when I am spending too much time indoors, in front of screens; eating too many sweets; not engaging in my hobbies and crafts; and neglecting time with my loved ones that I begin to feel unwell. What aligns us most with our highest wellness can also change and evolve.

My Qualifications

As a coach, I have a Holistic Health and Wellness coaching certificate from the Holistic Coach Academy. I am a Reiki Master, trained in Usui Reiki by Reiki4Life. I also have a Bachelor of Arts in Social Services from Belhaven University and a Master of Social Work from Jackson State University. I have worked in the mental health field for 15 years. Some positions I’ve held include: therapist,  mental health educator, hospice social worker, and advocate for women’s and LGBTQ+ rights. I have post-graduate training in nutrition and practice “gentle nutrition.” When coaching my clients on physical health and fitness, I do so from a body neutral mindset. I discourage clients from engaging in drastic elimination diets, such as carnivore or keto, unless their diet is prescribed by a doctor or registered dietician. I believe that an “all or nothing” mentality is ultimately harmful and that we can only find wellness in balance.

I have trained with Danielle MacKinnon in Soul Level Animal Communication and offer that service as an add-on to animal Reiki. I am finishing up my training in Dolores Cannon’s Quantum Healing Hypnosis Technique so that I can better help my clients heal from past life trauma. I am trained in Internal Family Systems technique and use that in conjunction with past-life regression in order to identify past life trauma. I will be a QHHT level intern in December 2025. The past life healing that I offer here is not the same as mental health therapy. Learn more about the difference between coaching and therapy. Coaching should not be used as a substitute for medical or mental health treatment but may be used as a complimentary service.

MISSION

The mission of Kaya Holistic Wellness is to empower our clients to find their own unique version of wellness. This may be through:

  • Reiki energy work.
  • Connecting more deeply with beloved pets.
  • Improving nutrition and physical health.
  • Being more attuned to the needs of your physical and spiritual bodies.
  • Finding and addressing past life trauma in order to heal in the present.

Spiritual healing

The world that we live in is not made to nurture sensitive souls. As we unlearn the ways we have adapted survive, we begin to connect with our authentic selves. It is only then that we can begin to heal energetically. I would love to help you bring your life into balance and find your unique wellness.

Body Neutrality

At Kaya, we know that wellness is not something that you can see by looking at someone. Wellness can be any size, any shape, any age, and any gender identity. The goal of holistic health & wellness is not to change the size or shape of your body. Sometimes that may be a result of some of the health and wellness changes you make but our coaching services are not focused on weight loss.

Kaya does not endorse or recommend any weight loss methods or plans.
